I have fell in love with Sixteen Tons by Tuff and Some Kind of Wonderful by Viva (the 80's heavy metal band Viva).
I have listened to a lot of "new" (new to me!) rock and metal bands from the 80's and I have found a couple of diamonds and a few of good songs during my search. Soon I'll give a listen to Pink Cream 69 and some other old stuff. I'm especially looking for an 80's hard rock/heavy metal band that sings in German. I haven't found any. If someone knows this kind of band, please tell me!
I never thought progressive rock would sound so good to me. I never though I wouldn't ever listen to anything else except hard rock, heavy metal and rock and roll, but now I - pretty often - find myself listening to Pink Floyd or Asia. I like the emphasis of progressive rock and that it's maybe just a bit "cleaner" than those rock and metal genres I mentioned earlier - or not, I don't know. Anyway, it sounds pretty good. Songs like Only Time Will Tell and Heat of the Moment by Asia have got me carried away immediately after I gave them a listen.
What event changed your life for the better?
It happened when I was in the 6th grade and really in love with one boy, that had a long, blond hair... I desperately tried to make him like me and that's why I started listening to the music he liked. We both were fans of HIM, but he also liked bands like Judas Priest, Scorpions and Iggy & the Stooges. I liked Judas Priest immediately. At first I had some problems at listening to the Scorpions, but then, finally, I got to listen to the 80's rock anthem Rock You Like a Hurricane and I loved it, too. (Notice: Nowadays I love the Scorpions more than anything, it's my favorite band, so it was J who in the very beginning introduced me to the Scorpions). From Iggy I liked the songs like Little Know It All, Lust for Life and so on.
As you probably have already noticed, I'm talking about the time I started listening to the old school metal music. The 80's hard rock is kinda sexual, energetic and positive (not everything), so it also changed me. I used to be a dark-minded metal fan before that. Because of the 80's rock music I became much more optimistic and sexual in a way, and that's the best thing that has happened to me.
